Over quarantine, I decided that I wanted to pursue an artistic career. Here are some of my work experiences, exhibitions and more that have made me into the leader and artist I am today. For artistic inquiries, send an email!

Hi there!

My name is Alexis Ramirez. I'm a college freshman who is pursuing art as a career. I have been drawing seriously for about seven years but have been working digitally for three.

Throughout middle school, I drew in sketch books for fun or relaxation. But in my sophomore year of high school, I took a digital media foundations class and everything changed for me. I learned Adobe Creative Cloud and soon adopted digital art as my primary medium. I started drawing large illustrations with bright colors. I enjoyed how colors added energy to my art pieces. Within a year, three of my pieces were displayed in the winter art show at school and before COVID hit, two pieces were selected to be displayed in the Denver High School Visual Arts Exhibition.

During quarantine, I began playing online video games and fell in love with game art and the potential I saw in this field to become a concept artist or splash art illustrator. These career options in the video game industry aligned well with my digital work. I began illustrating high fantasy pieces, especially drawing women and mythological creatures. During the spring of Junior year, I volunteered for an internship at Art Street, where I experimented with animation in After Effects. This pushed me into a new medium and caused me to think differently about how to approach space and size in projects. I learned to trust myself while creating new digital artwork. At the conclusion of the internship, the Art Street director referred me to a local artist who commissioned me to produce a digital animation on Denver’s downtown clock tower. This animation ran through all of June 2021 and was seen by thousands of people strolling down Denver’s 16th Street Mall at night.

Now that I am back in school, I can communicate with and be around art teachers that have inspired and helped me improve my art. I am working in a variety of mediums such as canvas paintings, collages and starting a large-scale mural painting. I look forward to attending art school where I can be surrounded by art teachers, staff and student community of artists, who are dedicated to the profession.

It's a magazine, created by teens for teens (and everyone else). High school students in this semester-long, paid internship make up the writers, designers and creative thinkers who string together art, music, stories and shenanigans into a monthly publication. Teens partner and work with local artists, MCA staff and peers to explore contemporary ideas and current happenings, create and share original content, and take creative risks in a supportive community.

Arts Street was founded in 1995 to help high-risk youth channel their artistic talents and natural curiosity into professional activities needed for the immediate future. I worked over the summer to create an animated project that represented a social issue. I worked with photographers, audio people and more.

Night Lights Denver is a permanent way for The Denver Theatre District to support innovative artists with an experimental platform while attracting people downtown to experience a free, unique experience. I was commissioned to do an additional animated piece after my internship that was displayed for the entirety of June.

Winterfest is an annual art show at the Second Star to the Right bookstore, which showcases a variety of ceramic artwork. My collages were displayed this year alongside the ceramic work.

Our school hosts a variety of in-school art shows in the fall, winter, and occasionally the spring. I've had a variety of my work displayed in these shows.

Citywide Art is a chance for teachers across Denver to submit a selective amount of work to be displayed in a government building. This year (2022), I received two awards for my portfolio and an individual art piece.
